Being of Swiss ancestry I decided to model my persona after people in my family tree.  I can trace my ancestry back to about 1250 AD in Switzerland.  I find it fascinating to learn about ones past and what they did.

My name is Simon Caspar Joder (pronounced with a Y) and  I come from a fairly wealthy farming family in the town of Steffisburg, in Bern, Switzerland.  Instead of farming, I decided to become a carpenter instead.  Learning from my uncle I made boxes, tools, benches, tables and other small items while I apprenticed. The only blacksmith in my village has also taught me enough to make the hardware for my works myself.  Learning my trade had been hard and I expected many more years of training before trying to compete with the towns craftsmen but the Bernese military called me to arms.  Being from a wealth family, I was one of twenty-four people in my town to own a gun.  I went into the artillery unit called to protect the banner of Bern but was very lucky.  I never saw combat for the war ended as I was being brought to the line.  After serving for six months I was left to go home.  Many of my fellow soldiers left to become mercenaries but I never had the desire to fight in the first place.  Instead I left my town and my family behind to master my craft and sell my wares across the known world not wanting to follow in the family tradition of farming the land.  I do plan to return some day to Steffisburg but I am having too much fun for now with Duke Kyrin and the House Von Draken.
