If you're an adult and a consumer why would you ask the Mommy and Daddy surrogates of gargantuan government to protect you from yourself?
As an adult you vote for the goods and services that are right for you and against the ones that are not. You vote with your dollars, with your continued patronage, with your word-of-mouth endorsements to others.

When South Carolina Congresscrat Joe Wilson cried out "You lie!" during yet another daily Obama oration in front of yet another TV camera the professional race-baiters came crawling out of their crawl spaces.
Poor Joe had everything going against him that guaranteed charges of racism: he's white, he's male, he's Southern, he's Republican. And the president is black.

Two weeks ago, both the administration and the Fed announced with straight faces that the recession was over and the signs of economic recovery were clear. Then last week, the president made a stunning decision that signals the administration’s determination to repeat the mistakes of the Great Depression. Much like the Smoot-Hawley Tariffs that set off a global trade war and effectively doomed us to ten more years of economic misery, Obama’s decision to enact steep tariffs on Chinese imported tires could spark a trade war with the single most important trading partner we have. Not only does China manufacture a whole host of products that end up on American store shelves, they are also still buying our Treasury debt.

Government has been mismanaging medical care for more than 45 years; for every problem it has created it has responded by exponentially expanding the role of government.

I received an email from a disillusioned Democrat who's attracted to libertarianism. Naturally, she has a multitude of questions, so I'd like to point her toward some online resources that specifically aid recovering Democrats rather than ones designed to wean people from their Republican addictions.

At some point, people who called themselves Liberals from the time America was hatched (individualism and self sovereignty were very liberal ideas) came to realize that they couldn't call themselves Liberals any longer because that name had been stolen by American Socialists, Socialism being the exact opposite of what Liberal originally stood for.
So some former Liberals began calling themselves Classical Liberals, sort of like trying to distinguish between Classic Coke and New Coke. This didn't work well since Classical Liberal sounds like Socialists who listen to Brahms. So some former Liberals began calling themselves Conservatives.

The nationwide ten-team Lingerie Football league, an offshoot of the pay-per-view Lingerie Bowls played opposite Super Bowl halftimes, has captured the attention (or the libido) of sports fans in the Dallas area.
The Dallas Desire, suited up in their blue and white bikini uniforms, kicked off its opening game against the Denver Dream Friday night (September 25, 2009) at QuikTrip Park in Grand Prairie.
There has to be a reason (besides the obvious) why a male libertarian opinionizer, normally known for spouting perspectives on political, social and cultural issues, would be writing about flimsily-outfitted female footballers.

Last week I was very pleased that the Financial Services Committee held a hearing on the Federal Reserve Transparency Act, HR 1207. The bill has 295 cosponsors and there is also strong support for the companion bill in the Senate. This hearing was a major step forward in getting the bill passed.
I was pleased that the hearing was well-attended, especially considering that it was held on a Friday at nine o’clock in the morning! I have been talking about the immense, unchecked power of the Federal Reserve for many years, while the attention of Congress was always on other things. It was gratifying to see my colleagues asking probing questions and demonstrating genuine concern about this important issue as well.

Immortality is just around the corner, right up the street, behind the Curb Your Dog sign. Or maybe it's a mere 20 years away. So says American scientist Ray Kurzweil in a Telegraph.co.uk article.
Advances under Kurzweil's "Law of Accelerating Returns" in such areas as genetic engineering and computer sciences and nanotechnologies will not only help our biological bits function longer but will make it possible to replace our vital organs. It seems that life-extending goodies like artificial pancreases and neural implants are already available.

Maybe by now the echoes of "Racism!" have receded from the hollowed halls of the Consecrated Cathedral known as Congress where the knee-jerk jeer of "You lie" stayed the tongue of His Majesty Obama in mid political pontification.
Perhaps the accusations of "Racism!" against the Tea Party protestors and 9/12 demonstrators and anti-tax activists and libertarian dissenters for their audacity in milling around the National Mall instead of timidly lapping the crumbs of received policy wisdom from the curative hands of Messiah Obama have finally faded to murmurs.
